Air conditioned buildings that are coated with White Elastomeric have 15-30% (Avg 20% ) energy cost reductions, enough to pay for the entire cost of the system over its 15-year lifespan (applies to metal, EPDM, BUR).
Firstly, the coating’s 90% solar reflectivity reduces roof temperatures from maximum 200° to 115°, (chart below ), drastically reducing heat absorbtion into the roof substrate and the building’s interior, lowering AC costs. Also, thermal shock (rapid temp change), usually caused by cold rain hitting the hot roof, is eliminated, along with many other harmful affects of solar radiation that accellerate the roof’s deterioration. Thirdly, the un-coated (metal) 200° roof surface heats up the air above the roof (convection) forcing roof AC units to work much harder.
